Patricia A. Coonan, R.N., C.E.N., L.N.C, Infantile Spasms Advocacy Network.:"Infantile Spasms (sometimes called West Syndrome) is a condition that begins in infancy. Babies with this condition show abnormal, jerking body movements, also called spasms; hence the name, Infantile Spasms. The cause of Infantile Spasms is not always known. However, the most common known cause of Infantile Spasms is a lack of oxygen to the baby during delivery. In some cases the brain damage caused by this lack of oxygen could have been prevented if doctors had taken proper steps during delivery to insure the baby was receiving enough oxygen. As a result, many children who have Infantile Spasms are victims of medical malpractice."

Clinical Practice Guide of Emergency Care: The Ultimate Core Curriculum by Patricia Ann Bemis, Amazon.com:" Patient emergencies happen wherever patients receive care and not confined only to the ED. When your patient has a breathing problem, this book has the answers. When your patient has chest pain or a heart emergency, this book has the answer. Nursing care is addressed though a nine-step process that allows the nurse to conrol the situation without fear. Each chapter is a complete learning module of a different emergency situation with techniques to collect information, do physical assessments, anticipate medical care, and monitor results.

Emergency Nursing World, Night Shift Survival Hints:"It often seems that some staff are "permanent night people" who always function well; that some are "day people" who are known to "face-plant" on the desk and function poorly at night; and that some rotate satisfactorily but markedly prefer one particular shift."

International Journal of Trauma Nursing (IJTN):"When the International Journal of Trauma Nursing (IJTN) was proposed, it represented a new approach in scope and purpose for nursing literature. The journal's scope was to cover the multiple issues, geographic settings and professional concerns of nurses who cared for the injured around the world. The purpose of IJTN would be different -- to be an international communication tool for nurses. The first step was to identify what content should be included in the journal. Because trauma patients have a wide range of health care needs, the journal was to be a reflection of those many services. Advice was sought from several United States nursing associations who had formed the Trauma Nursing Coalition (TNC), and the coalition has worked together to publish professional nursing literature."

Nursing Spectrum, A Lesson in Kindness, Kelly Maher Morrissey, RN, MSN, :"The ED appeared relatively calm on Sunday morning as I arrived to work my 8-hour shift. I received report on two patients; both sounded clinically stable. One patient, Dominic,* was particularly memorable. Dominic was an 87-year-old man who had been transported from a nursing home to the emergency department (ED) at about 4 AM for symptoms including a 104F fever and chest congestion. He was evaluated, diagnosed with pneumonia, and admitted. During report, the departing night nurse indicated that Dominic was oriented to person only and had been agitated since arrival."

4nursinguniforms.comNurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."
