Security video shows struggle between RFK son, nurses – USATODAY #nurseup #nursefriendly #healthcare #crime:"Security video obtained by WNBC-TV shows that the nurses stopped Kennedy from using an elevator, then tried to block him from using a stairwell.
The two sides disagree about what happened during the struggle. Kennedy said one of the nurses tried to snatch the child from his arms. The nurse, Cari Maleman Luciano, told police she was only trying to steady the “violent shaking” of the baby.
One nurse said Kennedy twisted her arm. Another said he kicked her in the pelvis. The security video shows a woman falling to the floor. Kennedy was eventually stopped from leaving the hospital by security officers."

Our practice is governed by standards of practice and "protocols" to be followed. In this case, a nurse admitting a rape victim collected and placed in a "rape kit" DNA samples, evidence to be submitted for laboratory analysis. The evidence submission protocol would inadvertently be broken by the nurse. The defense for the rapist would argue this breach made the evidence inadmissible."

The story of Amanda Trujillo, RN, is sweeping the nursing blogosphere in just a matter of days. From the initial story released via Vernon Dutton, RN to the many followup blogs, a national petition and a support group seemingly grown out of nowhere, nurses are banding together to help one of their own. When Trujillo was first fired she reached out for support to nursing organizations in her home state of Arizona. That support was not forthcoming. As the months passed and her hearing in front of the Arizona State Board of Nursing was put off Trujillo decided to take matters into her own hands and look for support elsewhere. In brief, it was the story of two nurses who, disturbed at how a local doctor was peddling his dubious “herbal” concoctions in the emergency room of the local hospital when he came in to see patients, reported him to the authorities. Moreover, they had gone up the chain of command, first complaining to hospital authorities. After nothing happened for months, they decided to report the physician, Dr. Rolando Arafiles, Jr., to the Texas Medical Board because they honestly believed that this physician was abusing his trust with patients and behaving unethically by improperly hawking herbal supplements that he was selling in the rural health clinic and the emergency room of Winkler County Memorial Hospital."

Summary: Doctors and Nurses by nature of their positions deal with patients when they are vulnerable, off-balance and emotionally needy. When the population includes the psychiatric patient, the potential exists for a client to develop ”feelings” for the caregiver. In this case, a sexually abused mother of three was admitted for multiple mental disturbances. During the course of the treatment, a relationship developed and led to sexual encounters following discharge. When it came to light, the patient successfully sued. The hospital would attempt to recover damages against the nurse following her testimony in defense of the facility. This is commonly called a Subrogation action.
