Diesel rationing could hit East Coast this summer, refinery owner says,  Friday, May 13, 2022:"The East Coast of the U.S. could face a worsening diesel shortage this summer, John Catsimatidis, CEO of United Refining Co., said in an interview with Bloomberg. United produces some 70,000 barrels of petroleum products each day and sells gasoline throughout western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania, according to the company’s website.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see diesel being rationed on the East Coast this summer,” Catsimatidis told Bloomberg’s Lucia Kassai. “Right now inventories are low, and we may see a shortage in coming months.”"

U.S. Grid Operators Are Bracing For A Wave Of Blackouts, By Irina Slav - May 09, 2022:"Grid operators from a growing number of states are warning about electricity shortages as grids cannot cope with the imbalance between demand and supply heading into summer.
California warned on Friday that it would need to produce more electricity than it is currently producing to avoid blackouts. The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the nonprofit charged with operating the power grid in 15 U.S. states and Manitoba, issued a warning about outages during the summer. The Texas grid operator recently joined the warnings amid a heatwave that started last week and is expected to last well into this week, the Wall Street Journal reported."

Egg Prices Surge in US Inflation Data as Bird Flu Wipes Out Hens, May 11th, 2022:"Egg prices are skyrocketing in new US inflation data, pushed up by a deadly bird flu that’s killed almost 10% of the country’s hens, adding to already rising food costs.

A dozen eggs at grocery stores cost 23% more in April than in March, at $2.52. That’s the biggest increase among consumer products tracked by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, in a report released Wednesday."

India Halts Wheat Exports As "Food Security At Risk" :"The move by the world's second-largest wheat producer comes as food protectionism runs rampant worldwide as countries limit or restrict exports of food staples to rein in domestic prices.

Wheat futures are expected to jump Sunday evening and add to record-high food inflation, crushing emerging market economies the hardest. High food prices have already resulted in inflation riots in several countries, one being the ongoing social instability unfolding in Sir Lanka."

After the leaked Roe opinion, Justice Thomas says the Supreme Court can't be bullied, May 7, 2022"As reproductive-rights protests continue after a leaked draft Supreme Court opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade, Justice Clarence Thomas says the court can't be "bullied" into making a decision that some would prefer.

"We can't be an institution that can be bullied into giving you just the outcomes you want," Thomas told a group largely comprised of lawyers and judges Friday at the 11th Circuit Judicial Conference in Atlanta, NBC News reported. "The events from earlier this week are a symptom of that."

"We are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don't like," Thomas said."

Stockman: The Fed Is Not Fixing The Problem, David Stockman:"The 10-year UST yield has crossed the 3% mark. So you’d think this was a sign that a modicum of rationality is returning to the bond bits.  But not really. That’s because inflation is rising even faster than interest rates, meaning that real yields on the fulcrum security for the entire financial system are still dropping ever deeper into negative territory. Thus, at the end of March the inflation-adjusted (Y/Y CPI) rate dropped to -6.4% and even with the rise of nominal yields since then it still stands close to -6%."

Nurses Report Being Traumatized by Patient Care, April 15, 2022:"Three years into the pandemic, moral distress, staffing problems, and workplace violence continue to plague nurses across the country, according to results of the latest survey in a series conducted by National Nurses United (NNU).

"Nurses are experiencing alarming levels of moral distress and moral injury due to the unsafe working conditions," NNU President Zenei Triunfo-Cortez, RN, said in a press release.

Among the 2,575 nurses surveyed, 69% said staffing problems were "slightly or much worse" in recent months -- a 47.8% jump from a year ago, and a 20.2% increase over the union's September 2021 survey."
