Why #NursesTakeDC 2018? Alene Nitzky, Ph.D., RN, OCN, @alenegonebad

Why do I want to attend and speak at #NursesTakeDC 2018?

It’s important for nurses to be authentically themselves. I have been an athlete my entire adult life and I know that the only way to accomplish a goal is to have a singular focus, without getting distracted by extraneous things that don’t contribute energy toward pursuit of that goal.

Each of us need to figure out what we value. When we know what we value and why, we are grounded, and less likely to get swept away by the strongest gust. Live your life in accordance with those values, every single day, in every single action. Focus forward. Eyes on the prize, feet on the path. We can’t let petty agendas, egos, and distractions pull us off-course. We must unite as a movement to unequivocally demand safety now- for the public- our patients and ourselves, in our workplaces.

I want nurses to take away one thing from #NursesTakeDC- that they will examine their own values and resolve to live their lives and do their work in accordance with those values.
