Biden's vaccine mandate for companies temporarily halted by federal appeals:" A U.S. federal appeals court issued a stay Saturday freezing the Biden administration's efforts to require workers at U.S. companies with at least 100 employees be vaccinated against Covid-19 or be tested weekly, citing "grave statutory and constitutional" issues with the rule.

The ruling from the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit comes after numerous Republican-led states filed legal challenges against the new rule, which is set to take effect on Jan 4."

Philadelphia COVID-19 vaccine mandate gets results in nursing homes:"All but one of Philadelphia’s 47 nursing homes have satisfied the city mandate to have all staff vaccinated against COVID-19 unless the workers have approved exemptions, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health said Friday.

The city, however, provided wiggle room. A relatively small number of the city’s 9,300 nursing-home workers remain unvaccinated or have an unknown status, officials said. They can still work, but must be double-masked and tested twice a week, health department spokesperson James Garrow said."

Troops who refuse COVID vaccines won’t be guaranteed veterans benefits, officials warn, November 3:"Troops who refuse the coronavirus vaccine won’t see any extra protections or leniency in how their dismissals are handled, Defense and Veterans Affairs officials confirmed Wednesday.

Instead, decisions on whether to give those individuals other-than-honorable discharges — potentially blocking them from a host of veterans benefits — will be left to local commanders, and their cases won’t receive any preferential evaluations for veterans’ benefits eligibility, despite recent lobbying from Republicans lawmakers for a less punishing approach."

CDC Director Refuses to Tell Senators How Many CDC Employees Have Gotten COVID-19 Vaccines:"“Do you really not know the answer to the number of vaccinated individuals at CDC or did you just not want to answer Sen. Cassidy’s question?” Burr wondered.

Walensky declined to answer directly. “We’re still actively working on collecting those data and those data are updated in real-time,” she said.

Burr asked for the numbers to be sent to the committee by Nov. 8."

St Luke’s Staffing Falling Short – Mandate is a Factor, October 19, 2021:"Vaccine mandates are impacting staff numbers

Neonatal intensive care nurse Kelly Rule was told by St. Luke’s that she needed to be “vaccinated” or be terminated. Choosing to not receive the injection, Rule worked up to the deadline, and then on Sept. 16 she handed over her St. Luke’s badge to Human Resources and her St. Luke’s email was turned off.

In a strange turn of events, after she was terminated and after the state’s “crisis standards” were activated, Rule received text messages from St. Luke’s saying she was being written up for a “no call – no show,” and they wanted to know why she had missed her shift and had not responded to the emails telling her to come in to work."

COVID vaccine injury claims mount, but recourse is lacking for those harmed, October 19, 2021:"More than 1,300 COVID vaccine-related injury claims are now pending before an obscure government tribunal, which to date has decided only two such cases, one involving swelling of the tongue and throat following the jab, the other alleging long-lasting, severe shoulder pain.

In both instances, the government, which requires claimants to prove their injuries are “the direct result” of a COVID-19 vaccine, denied compensation."

"American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) Senior Vice President, Policy Development Paul Graham issued the following statement on social media misinformation relating to COVID-19 vaccines:

“A social media post appears to be behind the spread of entirely false information, suggesting a COVID-19 vaccine could be a factor a life insurer considers in the claims-paying process.

“The fact is that life insurers do not consider whether or not a policyholder has received a COVID vaccine when deciding whether to pay a claim.

“Life insurance policy contracts are very clear on how policies work, and what cause, if any, might lead to the denial of a benefit. A vaccine for COVID-19 is not one of them. "

Courts Clash Over Religious Exemptions for Vaccine Mandates:"Conflicting court rulings about Covid-19 vaccine mandates for health-care workers in Maine and New York could lead the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider its stance on what freedom of religion means for employees.

The two states both tried to mandate the shot for health-care workers without giving them the option to bow out due to their religious beliefs. A federal judge in Maine allowed the state to move forward without offering employees an exemption, while a district judge in New York extended an order that temporarily blocked the state from enforcing the mandate for workers with religious exemptions."

Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio, Joan Swirsky RN, MS, CS, and Harold Stearley RN, BSN, CCRN. wrote about Nurse Abuse decades ago.

Nurse Abuse: Impact and Resolution:"Nurse Abuse reflects a collaboration of dedicated staff nurses, professors of nursing and nurse researchers devoted to exposing the grave injustices of the nursing profession. Our goal is to finally acknowledge the unaddressed abuse and ultimately change the face of nursing altogether. Our situation has not changed; it’s time to make a difference!"

#Covid19Vaccines, what did clinical trials so far evaluate? Ability to prevent infection, transmission to others? No, just "prevention of severe disease" unfortunately, but future trials are looking to assess those and other "endpoints." Standardizing Clinical Endpoints for COVID-19 Vaccine Efficacy Trials:"According to the authors, while prevention of severe COVID-19 is an important and expected benefit of a vaccine, the broader encompassing endpoint of symptomatic COVID-19 disease is needed because severe cases are a relatively small proportion of cases overall and vary widely based on other factors. The statistical power to show adequate efficacy against severe cases may be lower than what is needed in non-severe cases." https://www.infectiousdiseaseadvisor.com/home/topics/covid19/consistent-coronavirus-vaccine-trial-endpoints-help-facilitate-meta-analyses/
