Facing cuts, long-term unemployed brace for grim new year, Martha C. White, NBC News contributor #nurseup #unemployment #jobs

Facing cuts, long-term unemployed brace for grim new year, Martha C. White, NBC News contributor:"Nancy Shields is among the millions of unemployed Americans who are losing their extended unemployment benefits starting this month.

Many like Shields depend on these meager payments, a federal extension of state unemployment programs that expired Dec. 28, to stay afloat. After tapping out their savings, downsizing their living space, and draining their retirement funds, one-time managers and MBA grads worry over what this new year will bring."

Your Changing Role, Patty Hedrick, RN, @PKHedrick, North Star #ElderCare, #Nurseup #Caregivers

Your Changing Role, Patty Hedrick, RN, @PKHedrick, North Star Elder Care:"Many family members comment that caring for an aging parent feels like a "role reversal." They have become the parent and their parent is the child. There certainly may be similarities in terms of your parent's dependence upon you.

You are likely to run into problems, however, if you try to assume a parental role. Even persons with severe memory loss remember years of independence. They do not respond well to being shut out of decisions or told what to do. Like any adult, they want to be respected."

Why Mom may not be taking her pills, Patty Hedrick, @PKHedrick, North Star Elder Care #Nurseup #Eldercare

Why Mom may not be taking her pills, Patty Hedrick, @PKHedrick North Star Elder Care:"Did your parent teach you to "do what the doctor says"? If he or she is not following doctor's orders for medications now, you're probably feeling confused. And concerned.

It's common for patients not to take pills as directed. Some reasons include:

"It's too costly." One quarter of new prescriptions are never filled because of cost. Make sure the drug is on the insurance plan formulary. Or ask about generics. Find a discount pharmacy, or consider mail order."

Why did you choose this type of business organization? Renee Thompson, MSN, RN, CMSRN, @RTConnections

Why did you choose this type of business organization? Renee Thompson, MSN, RN, CMSRN:

"When I first started my business, I was listed as a sole proprietor. I quickly realized that I was missing out on the tax advantages and decided to advance to LLC."

Renee Thompson, MSN, RN, CMSRN, Conference Keynote Speaker, Bullying Expert, Nursing Consultant, Nurse Educator:"At RTConnections, I educate, connect and inspire current and future nurses. I started this company because I really believe that patients deserve to be cared for by competent, compassionate nurses and that nurses deserve to believe they make a difference.  To make that happen I offer keynote presentations that help nurses take ownership of their practice; seminars and workshops to improve clinical and professional practice; and consulting to help organizations create nurturing and supportive work environments for employees and the patients they serve. My area of expertise is in professional development, nurse-to-nurse bullying, communication/collaboration, team building and academic service partnerships."

Using #Hospice and #Palliative Preferred Practices to Create a Plan of Care. @pedagogymedical @hospiceheroes #nurseup #nursefriendly
Because of the complex needs of hospice and palliative care patients, clinicians must be able to construct a plan of care that will accurately chart a patient's progress towards outcomes that enhance his or her quality of life.  To accomplish this important service, clinicians should employ a system of preferred practices to effectively assess, document, and manage the end of life needs of patients and their families.
