New Nurse Born Product Entrepreneur Shares her Story, Sarah Brennan Mott @Nurseborn via @BethBoynton #Nurseup
New Nurse Born Product Entrepreneur Shares her Story:"Nurse BornProducts,(nurseborn.com) specializes in products designed by nurses. Inspiration for Nurse Born came about while I was in the process of developing the Lotus Stethoscope Holder. Nurses are incredibly resourceful, creative and inventive people and I wanted to provide them with a platform in which they could sell their products. Nurse Born went live this past September 2013 and we are adding new products all the time.
My journey into entrepreneurship was not an easy one – Here is my story:"

Patient Engagement: are patients able to be active participants in care? Martine Ehrenclou, @Med_Writer #Nurseup
Patient Engagement: are patients able to be active participants in care? Martine Ehrenclou, @Med_Writer #Nurseup:"Taking charge of your healthcare means taking charge of yourself as a patient and meeting the medical provider half way. Studies show that if patients are actively involved in care and partner with providers, that they experience better health outcomes and lower costs. See Health Affairs policy brief here.
But for patients to be active participants in care they must be willing to acquire knowledge about their diagnoses and treatment plans and learn how to navigate our complex healthcare system. That is no simple task for any patient, as it is a steep learning curve. It requires motivation and the ability to do basic research, to keep track of symptoms and share those symptoms with providers, to understand basic medical information, to ask questions and partner with medical providers in shared decision-making, and to take ownership of medical information."

Newest Generation Of #Nurse #Bullies. Can This Be True? Renee Thompson, DNP, RN @RTconnections #Nurseup #Incivility
Newest Generation Of Nurse Bullies. Can This Be True? Renee Thompson, DNP, RN @RTconnections #Nurseup:"When discussing nurse bullying, most of us think about the crusty older nurse bullying the younger new nurse. However, lately I’ve been getting emails from older nurses who are being bullied by…yep…the newer, younger nurses! How can this be?
Before I go down this path, I want to add a disclaimer: Not all new nurses behave this way; just like not all experienced nurses “eat their young”. But it is what it is and worthy of discussion.
Here’s why I think this is happening:"

To make that happen I offer keynote presentations that help nurses take ownership of their practice; seminars and workshops to improve clinical and professional practice; and consulting to help organizations create nurturing and supportive work environments for employees and the patients they serve. What Can Zumba Teach Us about Complex Adaptive Systems and/or Group Dynamics? via @BethBoynton #Nurseup #Nursefriendly
What Can Zumba Teach Us about Complex Adaptive Systems and/or Group Dynamics?:"I love my Zumba class and instructors. Somehow I doubt they are fantasizing about group dynamics and having epiphanies about related complex adaptive systems while dancing like I tend too, but that’s ok! Zumba® exercise classes are ” fitness-parties ” that blend upbeat world rhythms with easy-to-follow choreography, for a total-body workout that feels like a celebration. I typically go to a class 3-5 times a week at Jubilation Studio in Portsmouth, NH where the popular Interruption Awareness youtube was filmed!"

Coffee prices skyrocket after Brazil drought, CNN Money: #Nurseup #Nursefriendly #Nurselife #Economy #Inflation
Coffee prices skyrocket after Brazil drought, CNN Money:"Coffee
prices have doubled since late last year, and drinkers of the black
stuff may soon start to notice.
The culprit: a severe drought in Brazil, the origin of roughly a third of the world's coffee.
The dry spell has wreaked havoc on this year's harvest of Arabica beans, which are used for the vast majority of global coffee production."

Uncovering the answer to a case of chronic hip pain, Martine Ehrenclou, @Med_writer #Nurseup #Healthcare #Diagnosis
Uncovering the answer to a case of chronic hip pain, +Martine Ehrenclou, @Med_writer:"My husband suffered with hip and low back pain for about four months. It started right about the same time he was prescribed a new blood pressure medication. He didn’t think much of the pain at first because he was recovering from a groin injury, the result of a close encounter with a hockey puck while playing the game.
But the pain grew in intensity over the following weeks. He’s a bit of a tough guy and sometimes it takes some sleuthing to figure out what’s bothering him. As with most tough guys, Jamie tends to forge on with his normal level of activity even if something is wrong. I think that’s called denial. But he’d started applying ice packs to his lower back and hips each morning and night so I knew he was really suffering. I’d encouraged him to see our primary care physician, which he did for an overdue physical exam."http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2014/05/uncovering-answer-case-chronic-hip-pain.html
