The Benefits of Crafting…, Michelle Podlesni, RN, @Mpodlesni:"This past week’s Parade Magazine had an article on the benefits of crafting and how it is making a comeback in this country.  More than half of U.S. households take part in at least one crafting activity such as canning, scrapbooking, and sewing.  The article said that some reasons for this rise in making homemade goods relates to people trying to slow down the pace of modern life, people desiring to learn skills passed down from their grandparents and the sense of accomplishment and the pleasure of creating things.  The article spoke of a gentleman that after an extended illness found that he had difficulty concentrating.  His therapist recommended a meditative hobby such as knitting.  He found that knitting calmed his hyperactive mind and people would ask him where he got his hat and scarves.  He started selling them and it became so lucrative that he quit his job and now enjoys his craft full time."

Saying Goodbye Is Never Easy, Michelle Podlesni, RN, @Mpodlesni:"Can a child ever have enough stuffed animals? Everyone, including us bought our daughter endearing stuffed toys that were soft and cuddly. Of course there were those that the baby has to have next to them so they can fall asleep. I remember one time while working in the hospital that a family drove over an hour to visit their father that happened to be one of my patients. I received the panicked phone call around 10:00PM, “Could you please check my father’s bed because our daughter left Ellie with Papa, Ellie is our daughter’s stuffed elephant?” Turns out when they left Papa’s room to get a snack, their daughter had put Ellie under the covers so Papa wouldn’t get lonely until they returned, but then she had forgotten about it."

Michelle Podlesni, @mpodlesni:"I attended James Malichak’s Speaker Success Boot Camp this past week.  As someone that literally went to boot camp, I can tell you that when it ended the feeling was similar to getting out of boot camp in the Navy.  I felt exhilarated, motivated and exhausted!  While being seated for lunch on Saturday, I saw that Joe Theismannn, the legendary NFL quarterback, was seated in the booth behind me.  I knew that he was the celebrity speaker scheduled later that evening and here he was sitting right behind me eating lunch.  Those of you that know me know that I am from a small western Pennsylvania town known for steel and football so to say I was excited to see Joe is an understatement!"
