What Can Zumba Teach Us about Complex Adaptive Systems and/or Group Dynamics?:"I love my Zumba class and instructors. Somehow I doubt they are fantasizing about group dynamics and having epiphanies about related complex adaptive systems while dancing like I tend too, but that’s ok! Zumba® exercise classes are ” fitness-parties ” that blend upbeat world rhythms with easy-to-follow choreography, for a total-body workout that feels like a celebration. I typically go to a class 3-5 times a week at Jubilation Studio in Portsmouth, NH where the popular Interruption Awareness youtube was filmed!"

November 25, 2013 by @BethBoynton:"Beyond the Checklist: What Else Health Care Can Learn from Aviation Teamwork and Safety is a well-written and well-researched book that makes a compelling case for a collaborative leadership and team development process called Crew Resource Management (CRM). CRM, explained by authors Suzanne Gordon, Patrick Mendenhall, and Bonnie Blair O’Connor was developed by the airline industry following a disturbing pattern of preventable and catastrophic accidents that took place in aviation in the 70s and 80s. The training process with ongoing work contributed to marked improvement in safety. The principles of the process are explained and there are many opportunities for adapting it to healthcare systems. As a specialist in group process consulting and a nurse, I can see great value in this work."

"Well in all honesty, I was in my late 20s when I went to nursing school. I had been interested in a variety of medical professions and already had a BS in Biochemistry. A friend of mine's mother, an RN talked with me at length about what she loved about nursing, the practical lure of lots of job opportunities, and my own interest combined led me to applying to an ADN program. I was kind of drifting with teaching high school science and working on hazardous waste field projects and looking for lab jobs that I didn't really want. I got in and from the very first class realized that the nursing profession was way more challenging and exciting than I realized. It is funny that I minored in "Theatre and Communication" with my biochem degree and now have come to this exciting work in Medical Improv. It's all related in sometimes mysterious ways! Thanks for asking."
