In 1986 I attended nursing school as a way to support my 2 little boys following a divorce. Many years ago I was called to hospice and found out that I had an ability to connect with people that was very fulfilling and actually made a difference.
Well, I began to see this ability as a gift that I was given to help others. So, early in my hospice career I knew that I had a duty to bring comfort and care to those dealing with the end of life.
Every day, I am thankful that I have the honor and privilege of caring for the dying."

"I was a Certified Swedish Massage Practitioner and Certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor during my 20’s after leaving behind my studies in several schools of fine art. After some years in the holistic health field, I found that I wanted to be able to impact people’s health from the “inside” of the system rather than just the “outside.”
I had three aunts who were nurses---one who was a personal nurse to General Patton during World War II---and their stories of nursing and its importance made an impression on me from a very early age.
I always perceived nursing as a humble and important profession, and joining the ranks of nurses seemed like a perfect “fit” for me vis-à-vis fulfilling my goal of bringing improved health to as many people as possible over the course of my career. The holistic nursing model was a good match with my previous training in holistic health, and my ongoing goal has always been to bring that holism back to the forefront of nursing practice."

Frank Poliafico, RN, National Nurses in Business Association, Hall of Fame, #NNBA #Nurseup:"Frank Poliafico, RN, is the president of Emergency Training Xcellence, Inc. (ETX) and a recognized leader in emergency medical system (EMS) development. Poliafico helped pioneer the development of educational programs for emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and emergency nurses. From 1977 to 1980, he also served as director of EMS for New York City (NYC), where his many accomplishments included creating the NYC EMS Academy and the categorization of NYC’s 77 emergency departments. Since 1980, his private training and consulting firm has applied the advances of EMS systems to the needs of industry and government agencies on land, at sea, in the sky, and on the rails. He is a founding member of and has been honored by several leading professional associations and organizations.
Poliafico is honored in the Hall of Fame for his many accomplishments and contributions in the field of medical emergency systems development. He has educated countless nurses and paramedics in developing their own businesses in this field.

You are likely to run into problems, however, if you try to assume a parental role. Even persons with severe memory loss remember years of independence. They do not respond well to being shut out of decisions or told what to do. Like any adult, they want to be respected."
