The Pedagogy Philosophy

Pedagogy is the art and science of teaching, instruction and training. It is the goal of Pedagogy to offer the most current course content, at the highest possible quality, using a variety of education methods and strategies. Attainment of licensure and formal education is not the end of education. Professionals, both practitioners and educators, are responsible to continually develop their knowledge and skills. Through continuing education and self directed professional growth, health care providers are better prepared to deliver quality care to their patients.

Capra Dalton R.N. - CEO

Capra Dalton R.N. has more than 23 years experience in infusion therapy and the instruction of licensed nurses in infusion therapy continuing education. Her experience comes from multiple infusion settings: acute care, ambulatory infusion centers, home infusion, Long Term Care continuing education provider and Quality Assurance Consultant.
She received her nursing education from Lamar University, Texas and graduated in 1986.
Currently she is a member of the Infusion Nurses Society (INS), has served on Nurse Council of the Texas Health Care Association, member of the National Association for Practical Nurse Education and Services (NAPNES) as well as the Council of Practical Nurse Educators (COPNE).
Capra is responsible for education course content, and all operational aspects of Pedagogy.

Friendly Footwear a Must for Those Who Work Standing Up

The average American’s foot pain often gets in the way of daily activities. Perhaps no group suffers from chronic foot pain more than those who are constantly on their feet. According to the American Podiatric Medical Association's (APMA) 2009 foot ailments survey, 44 percent of respondents said they spend at least four hours standing every day. Additionally, nearly 78 percent of Americans have experienced foot problems as a result of wearing uncomfortable or ill-fitting shoes.

"The excess strain put on the legs and feet of those standing for long periods of time can take a massive toll on the body—especially for those working in the health care community," said APMA President Ronald Jensen, DPM. "Without the proper footwear that provides necessary support to the ligaments and joints of the feet, these individuals are subject to a host of ailments that can lead to chronic problems such as metatarsalgia—a pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot.”

Pain Medication Mistakes: Overdoses, Side Effects, and More

It's been a hard day, and Joe's back is killing him.

Anticipatory Grief | Alzheimer's, Dementia & the Stages of Grieving

What is anticipatory grief?
Anticipatory grief is the emotional pain of losing a loved one, felt in advance of the person's death. It's a common phenomenon among those who care for the terminally ill.
It may be experienced at any time by any one connected to someone with Alzheimer's, but it's especially common at the middle and late stages of the disease.
Why Alzheimer's caregivers are vulnerable to anticipatory grief
Good-byes are always painful, and Alzheimer's is the ultimate "long good-bye." Anticipatory grief is rampant, and perhaps inevitable, among Alzheimer's caregivers because of the slow, progressive, and incurable nature of the disease. University of Indianapolis researchers asked more than 400 caregivers the open-ended question, "What would you say is the biggest barrier you have faced as a caregiver?" The majority -- more than 80 percent -- referred to the loss of the person they used to know.
The friends and family of someone with dementia experience two difficult psychological states at once:
Anticipatory grief, coping with the very real feelings of loss for someone who is still alive
Ambiguous loss, interacting with someone who's not fully present socially or psychologically

How Eye Contact Affects Our Behavior - Nursing Link

That old adage about eyes’ being the window to our inner selves isn’t far from the truth. We can feign a frown or a smile, but it’s harder to fake expressions from the nose up. A true smile will produce crow’s feet, and someone who’s angry will narrow his eyes a bit, according to body-language experts. We learn a lot by looking into another person’s eyes, a behavior that’s ingrained in us from the start.

As babies, we use adults’ gazes to figure out what’s worth our attention. In a 2002 study published in Developmental Psychology, researchers found that infants followed people’s eye direction, rather than head direction. Eye contact also helps our younger selves with memory recall. Researchers at MIT discovered that four-month-olds were more likely to recognize someone later if he or she made direct eye contact.

A growing number of websites, with names like CareCentral and Lotsa Helping Hands, are catering to such families. “It is the fastest-growing segment of our business,” says Jay Drayer, CEO of CareFlash, based in Austin, Texas, which services families with many types of health issues.

Like mainstream social-networking services, these sites make it possible for a caregiver to communicate with many people at once. Most allow families to post messages, blogs and photographs—and receive feedback from a supportive community. The services typically promise privacy and notify members when new information is added.

It wasn’t so much the snoring, or her husband’s frequent retreats to the spare room, that caused Yvonne Paech to wake up to the fact she had a serious sleep disorder.

It was her 6-year-old granddaughter: She found it hard to nap with her grandma at the cottage because of all the noise.

The most worrisome wake-up call, however, came in a letter. It warned Paech, 68, that she could lose her drivers’ license if she didn’t get help.

“That’s the first time I thought, this is bigger than just snoring.”

And so Paech embarked on a quest to bring quiet to her North York bedroom. Today, it has led her to what might seem like the strangest place of all: a dentist’s office.
